Baptist University of the Américas (BUA) is a baccalaureate degree-granting theological university with a cross-cultural focus. In 2007, BUA celebrated 60 years of service as one of nine Texas Baptist universities affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. From its earliest days as the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute to its current incarnation, BUA has taken as its mission the formation, from the Hispanic context, of cross-cultural Christian leaders.
As the only federally recognized Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) among Baptists, BUA is designed to deliver higher education to Christian students who desire a learning environment that affirms Hispanic and other ethnic cultures and is affordable, accessible and missional. BUA prepares students for serving God and neighbor in the emerging world marked by multiculturalism, globalism, and ever-changing ministry and missionary models and provides an intimate and nurturing learning community.
